Project background
Parklands Hotel and Country Club is a luxurious spa and wellness centre located in the heart of Newton Mearns, Glasgow. It offers a range of facilities to the local community and beyond, including a gym, a spa, a hotel, and a wedding and event space.
Project phases
Client design meetings
Wilson Electrical was contacted by Michael, the owner of Parklands Hotel and Country Club, to carry out numerous sections of work, including replacement low voltage drivers and primarily to upgrade the lighting in the Pool, Sauna and Jacuzzi area, which had become defunct and required something new to illuminate the area and comply with special locations such the jacuzzi.
The detailed information that Michael provided allowed us to select the appropriate materials and lighting themes.
Challenges:
To design a system of lighting that would provide the correct fictional lighting and also create an ambience.
Solutions:
In conjunction with the bespoke LED lighting and years of experience, we were able to provide Parklands with exactly what they were looking for.
Bespoke material ordering stage
On this project and like many of our others, we use a bespoke LED service which was tailored to suit the exact length, style and robustness of the products installed, which allows this installation to stand the test of time in comparison to other more readily available materials.
Striping out phase:
The strip-out phase marked the beginning of physical changes to the existing electrical systems. Wilson Electrical ensured careful planning and coordination to minimize downtime.
Dismantling existing components in a step-by-step process to ensure partial functionality for the day-to-day running of the factory and to provide temporary lighting and power.
Challenges:
The primary challenge here was to ensure minimum downtime in the spa area as we had to work above the stone beds and jacuzzi area. Parklands had to block the area off to allow us to work safely and securely.
Solution:
With the bespoke LED materials, we prepped these prior to commencing the works to ensure minimal disruption to the spa users
Main wiring phase
Wilson Electricals’ skilled electricians first laid the LED profile in multiple areas, which would play the primary role of housing the LED lighting but also ensure minimal glare on the users.
Then secondly, the mains wiring for this project was run in the service spaces above the spa area to ensure compliance with regulations such as IP ratings and minimal disruption.
Finally, the bespoke LED strip was laid and adjusted to provide the right amount of light and ambience in its intended areas.
Challenges:
The main challenges that presented themselves to the staff on-site during this project were both the time and internal logistical nature of the working area; with it being a pool area. It was contoured and tiled, which didn’t lend itself to the most suitable place to work at height.
Solutions:
Wilson Electrical went above and beyond to ensure the safety of those in the close vicinity with signage and physical barricades to ensure public safety and also used unique methods to ensure safety when working in unique-shaped footings.
To help with the time constraints, we allowed for a larger number of staff in the installation phase to minimise distribution.
Testing Phase
Rigorous testing followed the completion of the wiring phase. This included comprehensive checks of power distribution, equipment functionality, safety systems, and emergency shutdown procedures.
Collaborative efforts with equipment manufacturers ensured each component operated at peak aesthetic potential.
Key collaborations
Throughout the project, Wilson Electrical collaborated closely with manufacturers of the bespoke LED.
This approach facilitated seamless integration, with the team adapting electrical solutions to meet the unique requirements of each lighting task.
We would also like to thank all the staff at Parklands, including Michael and the reception staff, for their clarity and assistance respectively.
Team and future plans
The Wilson Electrical team, consisting of three dedicated staff members for this specific project, played a pivotal role in the successful execution of the project.
Their expertise and collaborative spirit contributed to the timely completion and success of the bespoke lighting upgrade, with a happy client keen to continue new and planned works in 2024.
Conclusion
The collaborative efforts between Parklands and Wilson Electrical resulted in the successful execution of a tailor-made and time-sensitive project.
The upgraded electrical lighting not only met the immediate needs of the spa and wellness sections but also provided a foundation for continued development, growth and ever-demanding needs in the hospitality sector.
We look forward to Parklands Hotel and Spa being a long-term valued customer going forward.
